Just writing to let you know that as of today we have implemented a new bit of code that will almost guarantee that you do not see the same image twice (if you’re refreshing) during the same visit. This update makes us incredibly happy as we’ve been working on this for a bit of time and it was finally ready for release. (so the post below this one is totally fixed and gone, all images are rotating now)

We’ve also cleaned up some errors throughout the site, and fixed something on our end that prevented us from doing a LOT.

RSHUMOR.NET NOW LOADS EVEN FASTER!!
We’ve greatly improved the way that the site works through MySQL and load speeds are nearly instant now, there is no delay :). Hopefully it stays such and there will be no problems. Let us know if you encounter any.

We are aware of the problem with the random-ness, if you will, regarding the image rotation on the main home page. We are working on fixing it as soon as we can, but it is going to take a bit of time to isolate the problem. For now we’re going to advise that you simply use the “view in order” pages to guarantee that you get a new picture each and every time :).

Sorry for the inconvenience! Things like this happen from time to time when you try to push the code too far.

Yup…We’re catching up. Linda has been working overtime to get new images watermarked, and we’re actually catching up quite rapidly. We might have some more images in a day or two…but we just wanted to wish all of our American viewers a Happy Thankgiving, and remember — don’t drink and play Runescape! You may end up on rshumor, and lord knows that has no positive outcome ;).

Well I finally figured out what was wrong (yes, we’re kinda slow sometimes)…and now this page is working again (obviously). I uploaded a small image update today, and Linda is working on about 500 more images, to hopefully be uploaded soon.

We’re nearing the two year anniversary of the website, and I’m so very proud of how far this entire site has come. It all started out as a joke, and has far surpassed my expectations. About 700 different people see RSHumor.net each and every day.

In the past two-ish years, RSHumor.net has seen over 20,000,000 (That’s 20M) pageviews, and it grows at a pretty rapid pace, each and every month. Linda and I both get countless messages in game every day about being seen on the site, it’s quite amazing.

We love you all, and we’ll be back with more shortly. Welcome to the Holiday Season!

Hey Guys,

I know we’ve been rather quite, life has been hectic, but we’re back with a decent sized update (120) new images have been added to the database. We are working on catching up on the backdated images, and hope to be caught up within a few weeks. We ask that you not re-submit ones that have not been added yet (but you have submitted before) because they may already be waiting, and that just slows down the process :(!

Anyway, it’s great to be back, and we hope that you are all enjoying this new fall, and keep the new images coming!

Just a quick update so you guys aren’t left in the dark: no, we haven’t abandoned the site - Travis and I have just been tending to that rather irritating thing called life. There are many images for us to add and we will get them done asap. We realize it’s been many weeks since we gave you an update and I just want to say that I am very grateful to those of you that check the site on a regular basis to see if we have updated yet.

So again, stay tuned - we’ll hopefully get an update of some sort done within the next week (we’re waiting on Travis now, my life has settled down a bit =P) so hang tight!

Also, we did a bit more database work today, so the highscores should soon reflect the pictures, some people will have gained and lost…yada yada

In other news; Tomorrow we start work on a…incredible new feature, could take a month or more to get it off the ground, but we’re kind of excited =).

It’s finally done, well most of it — after hours of stressful bug fixes, one “start over” and trying to balance the butchering of the database today (it was a mistake, and it only took 2 hours to fix! =) ), we’re ready to launch this new feature.

What it is:
Visiting http://www.rshumor.net/featured will give you three (soon to be four) category options, two are related to votes, the third is the most interesting. It is a compilation of who submits the most pictures, basically. The files are “cached” (saved) so they don’t update instantly, I may switch it a little bit, but right now they’re accurate to 24 hours, or unless a button is pressed by Linda or I.

The significance:
A lot of times I get messages in game, and most people don’t even know it’s me saying how much they like my pictures, and I know from being told by at least one other person, that they get a lot of in-game messages to. This allows you to view the pictures of the most active contributors (you can find everyone else simply by searching). Clicking on their name will take you to a “Search” result page for them (not the new URLs — I know, spiffy, huh?).

We’re still trying to hammer out an update after todays near fatal oopsie on my part, but it did get fixed, so there isn’t too much harm done. Remember kids, always backup your databases! On top of this we’re working on getting the database records up to date still, we may consider taking on a volunteer or two, but the functionality for that simply isn’t ready yet so we’re not sure.

Edit: Oh, and there are some changes to the site that you may notice, the sidebar has been a little reorganized, as have the links on the top. You may start to see more rshumor.net/link links as opposed to rshumor.net/page.php?asdasd=asdasd (It’s just prettier, nothing has really changed). Mod_Rewrite is a blessing.

Yet another feature…but this one is a double-whammy!!

Today we released the “Quick Jump” feature which has been requested a few times, type in a image number (ID) and it’ll take you to it instantly, no more URL manipulation necessary, how wonderful =). The search feature has been a huge hit — we’ve started to update the database a little bit, it will take us a while to catch up, so we encourage you to check back to that page frequently.

BONUS!!

Runescape Pking has been given a COMPLETE face lift and more of the features and wonderful benefits of rshumor have been extended to it. If you haven’t checked it out in a while, it may be worth checking it out now. The Search functionality has also been restored thanks to a clever search function that we wrote for rshumor yesterday =). Much more accurate and efficient.

That’s all. As of right NOW, I just talked to Linda and it looks like we may be able to squeeze out an update tomorrow, so get your pictures in ASAP so they have the best chance of being included!

We’ve got one or two more “Updates” that we want to do, but we’re not totally sure if they can be finished in the next day or two, so they may just have to be released as they become complete. Half-baked features are no fun!

And now, at 2AM Linda and I have completed another high demand request “Searching”. The database isn’t really up to date however, but we’ll be working on that in the coming weeks to get it up to date so you can find the pictures that you really want.

There is one drawback, but if you can’t figure it out than there’s no reason to tell you :P.

We’ll work on a solution to this soon enough.
