We had a 418 image update on July 8th.. so I hope you guys have thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a bit late, I got busy and didn’t have time to do it when we intended.

Today marks the official moment in time which RSHumor appears to be fully operable.

Some forum posts are gone, but in the scheme of things, it could be worse.

Some editor panel accounts are gone, but those take a moment to re-create, so I don’t think it’s a hugely big deal. If you run into any issues we would be glad to help. We really do apologize for everything that has happened, but the good news is most everything else is back to normal!

At first estimate, we believed that about 600 pictures data (not the actual pictures, but comments and associated names) had been lost. As it turns out today, upon investigation, this number is actually close to 175, which is bearable. We’ll see what we can do over the next few days, whether it means I take one for the team and try to fix as many as I can, or if something else happens. Regardless, I’m thrilled the lost data is minimal. All pictures are back into the database that were there prior to the crash.

The only pictures we CANNOT account for, are the ones submitted AFTER May 29th, 2008 that had not yet been approved. Those will need to be submitted again. On a related note, Picture uploads are now open again, and we welcome all the ones you’ve been saving over the past week. Flood us with ‘em! We really want to make sure they get the chance to be put on the site.

Today we’ve also fixed the “Contact Us” and “Image Removal” forms, we know they’ve been broken for about a year, so it seems fitting that they be fixed along with everything else.

As it stands right now, approximately 400 images need to be added back to the database. We have the original picture files, but as the backup taken after the updates was corrupt, we do not have the associated submitter names for them. So we have the option to restore them with an “Unknown” submitter name for now and hope someone will claim them, or wait a day or so and see if the data from the other server is recoverable, and if it is, we will amend the database, and see how far along we can get.

In the mean time, we’ve attempted to disable new pictures, as we’re not sure which server the site will be on once this is all fixed (though RSHumor “dying” is, never will be, and has not been an option). RSHumor has never been stronger, and this is one of the first setbacks we’ve had.

Summation: Everything seemed to go wrong at once, and RSHumor is hosted on a server free from some of the other sites in our network, so were not at all affected. We’ve moved it to “Raptor” and are operating in “Backup” mode. In 24 hours we’ll know the next move, whether it be to re-create the data that is now missing from the site, or to attempt to keep the site as is and hope the data is recoverable.

Reminder: Please save all your pictures that you plan to submit to your computer. We want you to submit them once this is all fixed, we really do. In the mean time it’s easier though if we do not have to manage new data inside the massive database, as it’s a bitch to deal with.

On a seperate note:
We’ve made some minor layout changes to RSHumor, and I’ve restructured the Chat page to be more relevant to RSHumor, it previously was not.

The goal this week is to improve some of the pages and information on the site to make it easier to navigate, but also to be more useful. An update may occur, but we’ve been on top of the image submissions, so it looks like a large addition will occur fairly soon!

I also fixed a bug with the way the f2p and p2p combat numbers were being calculated. Absolute Value = lame…but, it fixed it! Pay attention to math in school kids.

UPDATE: We received some feedback about some of the colors and the text being un-readable. We will fix this ASAP, you can go ahead and use the colors you want still, as once they are fixed your sig will be updated automatically. Only minor tweaks are necessary, thank goodness.

Keep sending in images as you see them, everyone doing just that has made RSHumor what it is today. Horrah!

We are pleased to announce that after many requests we have created a new Stat Sig for you to use to support RSHumor as well as display your RSHumor and Runescape accomplishments!

We currently have two signatures to choose from, more colors and versions may be added soon, but these took a long time to code as they are a little different than most that you see on a lot of other sites. We chose to use the ‘in-game’ icons instead of the high-score icons for a bit of a different look. Here are the samples!

As you can see, the first one is primarily basic skills and information with a nice design, but the second one is where all the fun is to be had!

The second one displays in the very bottom (automatically) how many images you have on RSHumor, which is something to be very proud of!

We encourage you all to use them, and hopefully we can keep adding little features to them as time progresses.

A New Featured Chart!

“Overall Most Positively Voted Images”

Basically is total votes UP - DOWN votes, so you can see the ones that are the best by total votes on the site, taking into account negative votes, hopefully this makes things a little more easy for those of you who were doing the math manually, it’s now done for you. As with the other charts, this one is cached as well as it is the most server intensive as it has to read the entire table then do a ton of math in a matter of seconds, so there is a bit of a delay. BUT!

Please vote on as many images as you can so that we may begin to use feedback to take some pictures out of the database that are deemed “unworthy”.

You be the judge. Happy Belated easter, hopefully there will be another update in a day or two ;), as well as an image update early next week.
