So after a long evening of rewriting the backend for the site (some 600+ lines of PHP/MySQL database interaction) I went to see how many new images there were…20…and 30 new ones were added last night!?! Wow this site is getting so big so fast.

Today I added a new “if” statement to the upload script to *hopefully* exterminate a problem that has been running wild…pictures submitted that weren’t really pictures, just void (lack of) data. If you are having problems submitting an image please contact us and we will happily take it via email (credit to you of course) just to get it onto the site :). Hopefully this won’t create any problems and I will test it later but I haven’t been on Runescape for a few days so I have no pictures to add myself :(.

The new backend of the site will allow us to roll out a feature that is long overdue “Submitted by” on each picture. Hopefully this will go smoothly, and with this out we will be able to start on image searching.

As a last note…Don’t be claiming pictures that you really didn’t upload as yours ;). If you have any doubts as to who uploaded a picture — one this is for sure, you didn’t :P.

That’s abot it for now, hopefully I manage to get a lot accomplished this Memorial Weekend.

I really ought to keep track of how many I add into circulation ^^; I think it was in the ballpark of 30 or so though, putting us at 480 images. Four hundred and eighty. That’s right. My finger was constantly hovering over the print screen button - especially today. I grabbed about five images today alone and added some random ones from Travis that date back to Easter.

Thanks to Linda for the birthday post below…Today was awesome

Today we changed a few things around on the site, specifically the “view all” pages (query modified and a few more changes that makes it load a BIT faster *I really hope*) and the FAQ pages. In the next couple of days I need to do some updating to the “About Us” pages.

I’m not sure exactly what else I changed but I know I did SOMETHING…Oh yeah, in other news — I’ve been playing with WhatPulse today (http://www.whatpulse.org) it’s really quite interesting, and it can tell you how many clicks you’ve made while playing Runescape etcetera, really quite interesting!

Yes, I got sick of it just as much as all of you did. You should notice that pages (and images) load faster. If I had known (for me at least) such simple changes would’ve made a huge difference it would’ve been done a few months ago.

Whew, it has been a rather busy week!

This week will officially…well…I guess NEXT week will officially ring in the first months of summer break and we hope to get some cool things a-float in that time.

Today a bunch of images (My darling Linda lost count so I’ll just say a lot) were approved and she also made some more changes to the upload page which will be highlighted in a post she will make sometime this weekend.

And now for the fun stuff! We’re working on implementing a few things within … well I can get lazy so who knows how soon it will be out but yes…Image Searching! This feature will allow you to search a “topic / description” or “submitter” of any image in our database (approved) and will show you more information about that image.

And of course with the above feature, it only makes sense to make the description and author of each image public (Maybe when you hover over the image)?…The details are in the works however so nothing has been settled upon.

For you shy people that I know read this blog because I have the stats to prove it! (I wuv you all) You are allowed to comment on the website, or on this blog or whatever. :shifty:.

Well, Travis is silly. I added about 25-ish images earlier. I meant to add them this morning but time slipped away from me. We’re steadily approaching 500 images, though, which is a plus. Every week there’s 30-40 images awaiting approval, though only 25-30 actually get added.

Anyway, as Travis said, I made a few changes to the upload page. Most won’t even notice the subtle changes, but I fixed some of Travis’ goofy capitalization, a few grammatical errors and changed a few other things. The biggest change is to the preferred image format when you upload. It’s so frustrating to be faced with watermarking extremely low quality JPG’s. MS Paint does a horrible job at saving this file type, so if you happen to be one of those people that uses MS Paint for your screenshots, please, please save as a BMP (especially if it’s a conversation) and upload as that. The reason for this is that I can watermark and save as a lovely GIF or high quality JPG when I go through and watermark the images before adding them to circulation.

Also, if you’re uploading a larger image, it may take a bit for it to upload depending on your connection speed. You do get a confirmation message at the bottom of the page if your upload was successful

One final thing - I added a short line letting people know when images are usually accepted (Thursday night/Friday morning). Sometimes images are done sooner than that if I have time - or if one makes me giggle like a two-year-old, it gets accepted almost as soon as I run across it so I can show Travis ^^ - but for the most part, it’s become routine to go through and do them all in one shot.

Hopefully the image searching won’t take too long to get up and running. Have no fear though, I’ll badger Travis into doing it. If that doesn’t work, I’ll poke him with a spork or some similar item.

I’m suprised no one submitted this as a grammatical error on the main rshumor.net website but you will see the following on the FAQ page:

Today we went through and watermarked all the neccessary images that needed to be added for the surge in visitors for the weekend. This puts us VERY close to 500, hopefully within the next month or two we will get there!

Thank to whomever reported the “Next, Previous, etc” images needing to be updated from the old layout, those have been changed to match the current layout!

We are still currently working on updating the “Link to Us” banners, they should be done soon, while the new designs are in the works it got me to thinking. I’ve already written the code for a Runescape Stat Sig, perhaps I’ll create one for RSHumor :-D.

The story of how RSHumor.net came into existence is one shrouded in boredom, and a whole bunch of other crap but here is the condensed version. While sitting in an IRC Chat room one boring night after Christmas someone (Boostd_323/Sven) was posting funny Runescape Screenshots. That’s when the idea came to me “They are all over the place, why not put them in one easy to use system where you can see them all”. With that dream we’ve created a huge success. RSHumor averages over 200,000 page views a month now (and it’s still a baby! *sniff). The staff of the site credit it all to the users, the visitors, the ones who come back, the people that submit screenshots — Everyone!

Yeah yeah, that’s all fine and dandy, but how do we make RSHumor bigger and better? Simple, tell a friend about the site! Link to a picture, use a banner in a forum Sig (Linda, you need to redo them!). Every little bit helps.

Until I think of some more interesting things to say..oh wait! Yeah the 30 images waiting for approval will be taken care of tomorrow for the weekend rush, we’re getting mighty close to 500 images!
